Recovery Specialist
A little about me. Anyone who knew me before I started my journey in recovery would have said there was only two places my future would have taken me. I would die from my drug use or spend the rest of my life in prison. Neither was the case. I began this journey in recovery 2019 after many years of struggling with a mental health/substance abuse problem. I grew up with parents that struggled with substance abuse which lead to a lot of my life going in and out of foster homes, reform schools, rehabs, jails and prisons. I was considered to be hopeless and unable to change. They were wrong. My life changed in 2019 when I was standing in front of a judge being sentenced to prison again once again for selling drugs.
My recovery started with a card I received in jail sent from a friend in recovery while I awaited being sent to prison. It simply said “You can take this time to change your life or you can continue to keep going until your addiction kills you or end up spending the rest of your life in prison” That day, I had a moment of clarity and decided to change my life. I already had all the tools to do this from all the drug rehabs and NA meeting and other sources I had been through in my using journey, so I decided to use them. I managed to remain drug free in prison and when released stuck with it. I started chasing my recovery like I did that drug. I started to be of service to others that were trying to break free from substance abuse. I found that I had a passion for this and decided to go to school and become a certified recovery specialist. I have worked hard and have remained drug free a little over five years now. I have found that I can only keep my recovery by giving it away.
Today I carry a message. That message is of recovery. That any person struggling with substance abuse disorder can recover and live a life free of it. I know this is long and thank you for bearing with me. Feel free to reach out if you would like to hear more about my journey.
