Shana Wachter, MSW
Director of Substance Abuse Services
I completed my undergraduate degree at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and received my Master’s in Social Work through Edinboro University. I began in this field when I was studying for my undergraduate degree and had to complete volunteer hours with a local agency, which I chose to complete at the local drug and alcohol commission. It was during this time that I found I enjoyed this work and being a small part of an individual’s life to help them strive to heal and grow for a better future. I formally began my career working in the substance abuse field in 2018 doing case management. While working in case management, I decided to pursue my master’s degree and began my education. I first experienced working in outpatient during my master’s program, when I interned at Family Services. After the completion of my internship, I went on to work in an inpatient residential setting before coming to work for Family Services in 2020. I enjoy teaching clients about a multitude of coping skills and using CBT to challenge and change their thoughts and actions. I am trained in Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. My goal is to be a part of each individual’s recovery to better themselves and provide support for a long term sobriety.
